Can I connect a wireless router to a blue ethernet cable that supplies internet?

I live in student accommodation, and internet is supplied to our rooms through a blue ethernet cable running from the wall - the modem is elsewhere I guess. I plug the end of the cable straight into my laptop and I have internet - no logging in or anything. If I were to buy a wireless router and plugged the cable into that instead of my laptop, would that give me wireless?|||Yes it should.|||Yep ,babe
