Ive had a wireless router for about three years now and someone told me to update the firmware on it for better performance. How do I update the firmware? Please be specific. Thanks alot!!|||If your wireless router is working fine, I wouldn't bother to do anything with the firmware. After all, if it is working fine, there is no problem for updated firmware to correct. Furthermore, unless you have Verizion FiOS Internet service, you're probably connecting to your wireless router at a higher speed than your broadband connection itself can transmit the data to you. For example, if you're connecting to your wireless router at a speed anywhere higher than about 10Mbps, then your router is probably transmitting the data to your computer faster than your broadband modem can get it from the Internet. So, basically, there is unused throughput capacity because your Internet connection is slower than your wireless connection.
Of course, this all depends upon what speed your Internet connection is. If you've a 10Mbps Internet connection and you're using 802.11b (5Mbps capacity), then your wireless connection is the slower part. However, this is going to be a problem with either your router or your wireless card, but this is a hardware limitation and not so much of a problem in the sense that you can "fix" it. If you're using an 802.11b connection, this is a matter of chipset in your wireless card, your router, or both. The only "fix" would be to determine which is using 802.11b and replace it with either 802.11g (54Mbps max) or 802.11n (some crazy max around 270Mbps, if I recall correctly). Upgrading firmware cannot change whether your hardware uses 802.11b, g, or n.|||the site|||Try looking in the manual or on the product manufacturer's website for information on your specific model.|||go to that wireless router brand's site and it should be there
(sorry i couldnt provide a link for you because you didnt specify what kind of router you have)|||IF it AINT BROKE DON'T F**K WITH IT|||If you visit the Routers IP address there sould be a link that says 'Update Firmware' or something similar|||I am not really sure as to where to be specific inside the router configuration but I think as along as you are connected to the internet and you are able to access the router's configuration page.. just look where you can upgrade the firmware.
Here are some of the routers and how to access the configuration page:
