How do I get my wireless router to connect to the internet?

I am thinking of buying a wireless router to go with my wired router. If I was to buy it would my ISP automatically connect it to the internet or would I have to alert them.|||actually some isp's are checking the mac address of a router to connect it to an account number if it came with your internet service, a lot of times doing a simple release and renew of the dhcp address given to the router may do the trick but sometimes a phone call is necessary with some internet providers, here is a link to free router help videos,

Connect Modem [wired] to Router [wired] to PC and perform ALL steps again.|||It would be simpler to buy a wireless router from your ISP and dispense with your wired router. The solution would be neater have less to go wrong and use less power sockets - it probably cost you no more either. Additionally you would get support for setting it up

If you are In the UK and you wish to get it your self and set it up if you have a cable router i.e. from virgin media the wireless router will automatically be detected - you simply replace the wired router with the wireless.

If you have an ADSL (BT, talk talk tiscali etc) connection you would nea some setup information from your ISP. In both cases you would still have to set up the wireless (wifi) connection)|||Just connect the CAT5 cable the now goes from the modem to your standard (wired) router to the WIFI router instead. Then enter the router's software and make sure that the SSID is turned on. That should do it.|||Wireless routers typically come with ethernet ports in them and some have the modem built in as well. Yes you would have to contact your ISP, sorry.
