Wireless Router?

I use Time Warner Digital phone, internet and Digital cable. Can I connect a Linksys 802.11g Wireless Router to give access to the internet to my broyfriend's laptop? You can think of the router as essentially a splitter box for the internet connection coming from the cable modem.
