Wireless router?

i just bought a wireless router but never put a password, now some one in my are has done that and I cant log on to my own wireless..How should i resett the pass word|||Check the manual, but the basic thing is to reset it. This is normally via the pinhole switch on the back. The actual routine varies. Sometimes you need to power up with the switch held, others you hold it for several seconds, some you press it multiple times. When you have done this connect to it via a cable, immediately go to the admin section and set an admin password. This must be done before you do anything else, or the pirate user will get in and upset it before you can set up the connection. You then need to set the ISP login information again. Then set encryption. You really should have done this before, someone could be using it to send thousands of porn emails tracing back to your site, and without encryption any wireless sniffer could see ALL your traffic.|||you mean the encryption key? log in to the router using the IP Address in the browser. its probably 192.168.1.1, if not then go to Start %26gt; Run %26gt; type CMD, then from the command line type IPCONFIG /ALL and get the default gateway IP and use that. It will ask you for a password, its usually admin / admin by default, if not let me know what kind of router and i can look it up.

If this is the password you were referring to then you'll need to reset the router to clear it or set it back to the default|||After you've taken back your router with the Reset button (sometimes it's a hole for a paperclip to be poked into), make sure you keep it with these steps:

1.FROM A COMPUTER CONNECTED TO THE ROUTER WITH AN ETHERNET CABLE ONLY, log into your router's admin pages from your browser.

2.Find the page that controls wireless access to the admin pages and deactivate it. Make it so someone has to be sitting next to the router with a computer and an Ethernet cable connecting them to control it.

3.Find the page in the router's admin pages that defines the SSID (essentially, the network name).

4.Change it (you'll have to change it in all your machines also) so it's not using the default for your router.

5.Turn off SSID Broadcasting so the router doesn't announce it to the world. You're not running a hotspot and all your machines should know the SSID.

6.Find out how to install a network (WEP or WPA) key (not a login password) for your router, do so and set it up there and on all your machines. I suggest copying-and-pasting it (there may be four) into a Notepad or Wordpad document so you can accurately copy-and-paste it to your machines.

That should throw most interlopers off and keep them from coming back.|||If you're not able to log in using the default username and password, such as admin/admin (Also check the user manual for your router as the username and password may be different) you should be able to perform a hard reset on the router.

If you look on the back or bottom of the router, you should see a reset button. Press and hold the reset button for about 30 seconds. This will normally reset the router to it's original configuration, allowing you to login again using the default username and password.|||Either get the book out or go online and download it. It will tell you the hard reset process, this will reset it to the factory settings.
