Wireless router?

I have a computer which has a BT Voyager ADSL router. I wish to purchase two computers for my children which will be used in a room other than mine. What do I need to get them up and running please? A wireless router or someting else this technophobe has never heard of? Help gratefully received.|||You will need a router to connect your computer and your children's two computers. If it is possible to run cat5 cables (network cables) to all three computers, then you can simply get a wired router and four cables (one for each computer and one to connect the router to the modem.) If you cannot run cables to the kids' computers, then get a wireless router. You will then need to get wireless cards for each of the kids' computer. If their computers are to be laptops, most come with wireless on the motherboard and no extra card is needed. Some desktop motherboards are now coming with wireless integrated as well. Check whether yours does when you purchase the computer. Good luck.|||As answer 0ne

but shop around|||When you purchase the two new computers, make sure they come with the wireless option. Your going to want a wireless connection. I don't think you are going to want to invest the time on running cat5e cable through walls and floor boards ($$$). As long as you don't want to get too technical, all you have to do is connect a usb wireless card on the computer you have now and the other two will connect automatically. If you want to share files or use one printer that's another story...|||When is your broadband contract up?.

I would ask bt to supply the router if you can get away with it.

I did and got one with a promise to stay with them for another year.

Two wireless usb dongles are all you will need on top of that.|||as long as the cpu has a card built in with it would , all you need is a router , but it bepends on the provider, either cable or phone- cable will have a connecter for a cable line, phone router will have a phone connection|||That really depends on the router you already have. If that is already wireless capable you just get a wireless adapter or widely called "wireless card". Most laptops nowadays have it but not for most desktops, so that would be something you would need to buy extra.

If your router type the one that can do a straight connection you just need a wire called ethernet cord. Make sure your PCs have ethernet adapter though which almost all type of computer have. Just plug it straight to the PCs then wala!

If you prefer a wireless connection but the DSL router isn't wireless you can ask the internet provider if they have such type. Or, you can compare the price of such device to getting a similar one from your local PC store to see where you can save, but you would still need to see if your childrens PCs have the wireless adapter.
